My client has been using Quickbooks/Intuit‘s payment processing for about 8 months. This month, they processed a large batch (they are a growing company and there has been constant growth each month of about 35%) and Intuit held the batch. Intuit made it so that we can’t even see any transactions in the payment gateway or any payment info on the customer in QBO. Intuit decided that they are not going to give the company the money AND they aren’t returning it to the customers!!! We have to contact each customer and tell them to dispute their transaction with their bank or credit card company to get the money back and then pay us again. Intuit also will not provide us with any details as to the payments that they are holding . So with no notice, we had to set up an outside processing company.
The primary benefit of using Intuit for credit card processing is the automatic integration between QuickBooks and the payment financial accounting processing. Without QuickBooks, you’re simply signing up for credit card processing, and Intuit’s options are pricey.

Applying to process with QuickBooks GoPayment is easy, and you can complete the application online or over the phone. With QuickBooks Payments, you can accept all major credit cards and record cash and check payments. You can also accept ACH bank transfers as online payments for invoices. I’m a small business owner who previously worked in the credit card processing industry. I started this blog in 2009 to help other business owners by exposing credit card processors that engage in unethical marketing, rate and fee trickery, and fine-print-contract schemes. Over the last decade, I’ve reviewed hundreds of merchant services providers which has helped to educate over 5 million businesses on the nuances of credit and debit card acceptance.

Use the company field to add the “Credit Card Provider’s Name” (ex. Chase Cardmember) from your credit card statement. Make sure “display name on print check” is also checked. If you generate sales on the road, you can still create sales receipts for customers using the QuickBooks mobile app. Just click the plus (+) sign at the bottom of the screen and select Sales Receipt. The form is similar to the one you’d use on your desktop computer, though the layout is different, of course. Once you’ve found the invoice, look down toward the end of that row.
ACH payments are not charged a per-transaction fee under either plan. There is no setup cost for a QuickBooks Payments account other than purchasing the QuickBooks accounting software.
- GoPayment is used to pay-as-you-go or receive payments from anywhere, at any time, on the cloud.
- Their underwriting procedures are setup to deny any company that they believe could be a risk, knowing that they will turn down a significant number of perfectly legitimate, low risk businesses.
- However, I’m only taking payments of $250-$500, 5-10 times per week .
- If you plan to use Intuit, be sure to keep an eye on your statements and ask questions about anything that doesn’t line up.
I’ve appeared in the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Inc. Magazine and a host Intuit Online Payroll Free Trial Special Offer of other publications to offer insight on the subject of card acceptance.

@hugh_jeremy so you now provide an online voicing system that has online payment methods? I’d love an alternative to QuickBooks online for my invoicing that doesn’t cost $30/mo for 5-7 invoices

GoPayment is used to pay-as-you-go or receive payments from anywhere, at any time, on the cloud. QuickBooks can accept credit cards with QB Payments, using the customer’s choice of Mastercard, Visa, American Express, and Discover. The transaction fees vary, depending on the method used .
Process ACH and credit card payments against existing invoices and sales receipts or generate new sales receipts at the time of payment. We have used Intuit QuickBooks credit card processing service for over a decade until today. We had a client make a purchase for $7,500 and then request a refund in less then 24 hours. We processed a refund request about 18 hours after the original charge. We were charged $255.25 for to process the original transaction and then we were charged another $255.25 to issue a refund to the customers card. To say this is beyond ridiculous is an understatement. Again we refunded the original transaction in less then 24 hours and are being charged $225.25 X 2 which equals $ 550.59.
Before switching from Intuit and lowering its fees by more than 50%, this business was using Quickbooks to swipe virtually all credit and debit card transactions. While flat rate pricing is often lower cost than tiered pricing, it’s still not as low as competitive interchange plus. Unless your business only processes a few thousand/month in credit cards or has small average transactions (under $10), flat rate like the Intuit fees listed above will not be the lowest cost option. By reducing competition Intuit is able to charge excessive fees. You can use Intuit payments for accepting all major credit and debit cards.
